To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I really wanted to put 5 stars...Train is fantastic, perfect size, not too big, not too small, rails well constructed, much better than Lionel's entry level version. Remote is battery operated but locomotive is not, which is a great feature, trains runs so fast, you don't see it slowing down as the minutes pass, sucking all the battery energy, because it operates pluged to the wall.Sadly, my locomotive came defective. Apparentrly the electrical contacts are deffective. Waiting for new box to arrive with replacement. You will need some extra rails, the original 40"x40" round layout is not that interesting.
I got this in the mail is pretty good I love it it rides well on the track the only thing I don't like is the other cars on the track the wheels do not move but they still work perfectly
This is not the Lionel train I had when I was a kid!!! Extremely poor quality, made in China, plastic. I received the train set on December 18, 2016. Here were my main issues at that time.
1. Track is extremely difficult to connect (as mentioned in many other reviews). Cheap plastic, not well-engineered connectors. 2. I'm concerned about what happens when I try to take the track apart. Haven't tried it yet. 3. The cars are plastic except for parts of the engine like the wheels that must be metal. Detail is nice. 4. It comes with a cheap power supply that cannot be turned off!!! Are you kidding me?! To turn it off/on you need to unplug it from the wall socket or plug it in to the wall socket. In other words, you are the switch. I purchased a remote control switch that plugs into the wall socket and then I plugged the train power supply into the remote control switch. This way I can turn the train power on/off without having to unplugged the power supply. The work-around was $11 + tax.
None of the points above are solely responsible for the 1-star review. In addition to those points, on December 20, the train would not run!!! Have had it less than two days and it doesn't run!!!! The lights work, the bell rings, the horn works and announcements work, but the most important part of the train does not work. I don't know whether it's a problem with the remote control or the engine.
VERY OBVIOUS LACK OF QUALITY.
I will be returning this train set. That is another major irritation because it wasn't easy to unpack it and put it together and it won't be easy to take it apart and repack for shipment back to Amazon.
If anyone has a suggestion for a Quality train set, could you let me know.

I just received my train in the mail today. I was excited to get it assembled and running as soon as possible. Sure enough as soon as the track was all attached and the transformer plugged in the train did not run. New batteries were put into the controller and the track had power because the train lights went on however the train does not run. Its says the controller is preset to work with the train but I must hag received a defective unit because iv tried everything and now I seem to have purchased a really expensive paper weight. Im really upset and I hope for a replacement or my money back.
